Minette: You're listening to Midnight Classics and I'm your host Fourchette. Tonight, the Noank Philharmonic, under the baton of Maestro Buddy MacDonald. I caught up with the controversial conductor at a recent rehearsal.Maestro, there are those critics who say the Noank Philharmonic is more of a circus than an orchestra.
Maestro: Yes, I've heard that.
Minette: They say that the humpback whale has no place on today's concert stage.
Maestro: It takes up some room, yes, but...
Minette: Your detractors charge you with mangling the music of the masters in service of your idiotic programming ideas...
Maestro: I know.
Minette: ...and basically showing a deep contempt for the composer's intentions. How do you respond?
Maestro: Look. Sooner or later, Sparky will be accepted. He has great pipes. And he's a sensitive interpreter. And he can count, which, among singers, is fairly unusual.SFX Orchestra tuning.
Minette: We're ready with tonight's performance of the Mozart Horn Concerto Koechel 417 in E flat, tonight being played in G for some reason. And here's Maestro MacDonald. The whale soloist is being slowly winched down into it's tank. And here we go.
